Relief and alternative to route through Poland and Belarus

Vienna, 10.12.2021 – On 11. December, the first test train for the new multimodal service arrives at the terminal in Beijing, coming from St. Petersburg in Russia. The train with 45 containers had started on 25. November after the goods had left Hamburg by ship on 16. November. From 2022, the service will be offered regularly and will form the basis of a new, stable service to China. From January, the service will also be offered on the southern route through Kazakhstan.

The new Hamburg – St. Petersburg – Beijing route offers forwarders a new solution and a stable product. The service starts with the transport of goods from the ports of Rotterdam, Hamburg, Duisburg and Gdansk/Gdynia by ship to St. Petersburg. From there, the onward transport takes place by rail to Beijing. Only at the Zabaikalsk terminal on the Russian-Chinese border is a rerouting necessary – on the route through Belarus and Poland, on the other hand, two reroutings have to be made. Recently, there have been repeated difficulties on the European part of the route from Central Europe to China. In particular, the political situation in Belarus and long tailbacks at the Polish border made transport difficult.

The new service bypasses both Poland and Belarus. The affiliation to RZD BA (Russian Railways Business Asset), and the resulting close cooperation with the Russian railways, enable BAIJI to ensure flexible products, limited border controls and efficient customs clearance procedures on the northern and southern routes. Far East Land Bridge (BAIJI) thus has an overview of the entire transport route and can influence the process. “The new service will noticeably strengthen the trade of goods with China, as we are now able to offer our customers a stable solution with manageable transit times, where we have everything in our own hands,” explains Uwe Leuschner, CEO of the BAIJI Group.

Far East Land Bridge specialises in the transport of 40ft DV, HV and 20ft containers between the Far East (China, South Korea and Japan), Russia and Europe. Since 2007, BAIJI has been scoring points with its customers with its service orientation. BAIJI’s portfolio is constantly being expanded with new routes, technologies and efficient services. “In the long term, the new service from St. Petersburg will relieve the existing routes via Poland, which will lead to reduced backlogs,” clarifies Leuschner. “With the route via St. Petersburg, we are demonstrating a real alternative that belongs to the future in view of increasing volumes of goods,” adds Leuschner.
